Now you can really LIKE the French Car Forum

You may notice that like icons Image have appeared at the bottom right hand side of forum posts, and there is an extra box appearing at the top of the index page and forum pages.

Well... Following a successful rolloout on BXC, I have installed a new extension (called Post Love) to the forum software, which allows uses to Like other users posts, similar to like on Facebook and other social media.

Likes of individual posts are tallied, causing the most-liked posts to appear in the summary lists at the top of index and forum pages.

How to "Like" a post: Just click on the Image at the bottom right hand corner of the post. You can't "like" your own posts.
If the icon is Image, then you have already "liked" this one, and clicking it again will "un-like" it. This means that you can only vote once for each post.

To the left of the Image is the number of times that this post has already been liked, if you hover your mouse over the number, you will see which users have liked the post.

In the user profile panel on the left hand side of the topic page, the total number of likes received by the user (for all posts) is displayed.

If you go to a users profile page (e.g. by clicking on their user name where it is shown as a link), then you will see a link "Show list with all like actions" at the bottom of the user statistics section. This link will take you to the details of all recent likes of that user's posts.

The summary boxes on the Index and Forum pages contains lists of the most liked posts of the day, week and forever. The period relates to when the post was liked, not when the post was made, so if you like a post from last week (or last year) it will show up in the summary for today (but only for one day...).
The number of posts shown in each list is configurable, I will be fine tuning the numbers over the first few weeks of operation.
The contents of the summary boxes are only updated every 30 seconds, so you may need to wait to see the results of your like.

If you don't want to see this feature, you can disable the display of the Image icons and the summary boxes:

To hide the feature on the Index page, Forum Pages and Topic Pages:
  • Go to your "User Control Panel" page
  • Select the "Profile" tab (you may need to click the unnamed tab to the right of the "Overview" tab)
  • Check the "Postlove Hide:" checkbox at the bottom of the page
  • Check that you have filled in the "Location" field and "My Cars" fields
  • Submit the page
To stop receiving notifications when others like your posts:
  • Go to your "User Control Panel" page
  • Select the "Board Preferences" tab
  • Then "Edit Notification Options"
  • Un-check both boxes on the "Liked Posts" line
  • Submit the page
Too may liked posts on the index page?
As an experiment, I have added another option to the user profile that lets the user choose to see only "recent" likes on the index page.
"Recent", in this case is since the beginning of the user's previous browsing session on the forum. There are technical reasons for choosing that as the threshold time.
This setting does not (at this time) affect what is shown on the topics pages.
I will only keep this option if a few people like it.

Actually, no... It was me that crashed the forum, but I was making an unrelated change to the page that admins use to check the validity of new users.

Call me old-fashioned but I find all of this tarting up of the forum with the 'likes' of this to be distasteful but accept that it is a sign of the times we are all a-living in these days, sorry, had to be said. Freedom of speech and all that. PS for balance is there going to be a corresponding 'dislike' icon to click for those messages which irritate? May slim down on all of those posts which seem to mysteriously go 'off topic' maybe (and there's LOTS of those as we all know).

Does it work with Tapatalk I wonder?

I agree with the first part of your post and was about to 'like' it (you'd get a 'love' icon :) )

But ... i disagree with your second statement which prevented me from 'like'ing the first statement so can i ask that you keep your posts within the realms of a single statement in future if you want your ratings up :rofl2:

Did i miss the 'canvassing' for the rollout of this 'enhancement' to the forum??

I'm sure i would have disagreed then had i seen a consultation discussion, i really dislike enhancements of this sort with a vengeance!

I use tapatalk all the time and there has been a like button on it for ages. A hand with a thumbs up. I don't see a new red heart to like it.

The "liker" can remove it....but I am not going to ......muhahahaha

It seems that every "LIKE" gives a "Notification" as well, now that is a problem

Tapatalk uses its own like system, so Web users can't make or see those likes. Similarly, Tapatalk users can't make or see the native likes.

Maybe one day Tapatalk will integrate the 2 systems.

It looks like everyone's going to get a like, like, as the heart is right where I scroll with my thumb on my iPhone! #-o

If thats the case then surely it cant be right to rollout a feature enhancement that isnt consistent across all end users in my opinion. I'm not happy with this [emoji16]
