Poor Starting on TD Xantia

Post by Grant Withington » 04 May 2002, 02:44

Just a note to advise anyone with poor starting symptoms to check the cold start mechanism. For once Haynes do a good job of documenting this. My TD was a terrible starter, often needing 4 goes on the starter and gentle throttle use untill ticking over. Upon checking, the cold start mechanism was not working, because the clamp grub screw had come undone. Check this first to save a fortune in new glow plugs, starter relays, injectors, and heaven forbid, injector pumps. I think we all take the reliablity of the 1.9 TD engine for granted,no matter how good, it does need occasional tuning!!
